Resolving the conflict in Colombia with rebel groups

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said that the country’s authorities have agreed with the five largest rebel groups on a ceasefire for a period of six months.

“We have agreed on a bilateral ceasefire with the ELN, the Second Marketalia, the Central General Staff, the AGC and the Sierra Nevada Self-Defense Forces from January 1 to June 30, 2023, with the possibility of extension depending on progress in negotiations,” Petro wrote on his Twitter account (blocked in the Russian Federation).

The Colombian government, as France 24 TV channel notes, offers the groups a “benevolent judicial attitude” in exchange for the transfer of assets, self-liquidation and the cessation of illegal activities.

Earlier, Colombian rebel groups unilaterally announced a ceasefire for the Christmas holidays – until the beginning of January.
